Delete your Claras: Split Expenses account

App by Grybow (Juan Camilo Andrade Grisales) on Google Play (in Spanish: Claras: dividir gastos) · last updated September 28, 2026

In short: you can delete your account and data at any time in the app, under Settings > Delete account and data. If you no longer have the app, or want to delete groups the app can't delete, email support@clarasapp.com.

In the app (fastest)

  1. Open Claras on your phone and make sure you have an internet connection (cloud data can't be deleted while offline).
  2. Tap the Settings tab in the bottom bar and find the Account section.
  3. Tap Delete account and data.
  4. Read the summary of what will be deleted and tap Continue.
  5. Type DELETE and tap Delete account.
  6. Wait for the message "Your account, the groups created with it and the data on this phone were deleted." (if that phone used other anonymous identifiers before, the message adds that and gives you the support email).

Don't see the option? It appears once Claras has connected to the internet at least once. If it never connected, there is none of your data in the cloud: just delete your groups or clear the app's data.

If you used the same email account on another phone, local copies of your groups may remain there. Remove them by deleting those groups or clearing the app's data on that phone.

What gets deleted

The app deletes what belongs to the account Claras is connected with on that phone (your current account):

Claras is left like a fresh install. Right afterwards (or the next time you open it online) it creates a new anonymous identifier with its own session (IP address and user agent of that connection). It has no groups and no connection to the deleted account, and it stays in the cloud even if you then uninstall the app (like any earlier identifier, see below).

What the app can't delete: groups under an earlier identifier

The in-app option only deletes what belongs to your current account, meaning what you created or joined with the identifier Claras uses today on that phone. Claras keeps that identifier every time you open the app, but replaces it with a new one in some cases (details in the Privacy Policy, 2 b). These stay in the cloud and can't be deleted in the app, even if you delete your current account:

Not sure whether Claras still uses the identifier you created a group with? Open the group, three-dot menu, Delete or leave: if the prompt offers Delete for everyone, it does, and you can delete it in the app (or tap Cancel). If not, deleting it in the app only removes the copy on the phone. If you joined one of those groups again with a code, the app shows you as a member, not as its creator, so you won't see "Delete for everyone" either. To ask us to delete them from the cloud, email us with each group's name and code, and first read what we can and can't do.

What may remain, and for how long

DataWhy it remainsHow long
Expenses and participant names in groups created by other people They are part of the whole group's accounts. They are not linked to your account: your name only remains as the text someone typed to identify you (for example "Ana"), and expenses don't record who entered them. Until the group's creator deletes the group.
Groups, memberships and sessions of an earlier identifier The app can't tell they are yours (see above). Today they are not deleted automatically. The sessions store the IP address, user agent and times, but not your name or email. No fixed time limit. By email we can delete groups created under that identifier only in the cases explained below, and by default we delete only the group, not the identifier. If that identifier created no groups, we have no way to find it in order to delete it.
Copies on other members' phones Other people's groups stay on their phones. Groups you created disappear from phones that have Claras open and online at that moment; on the others a local copy that no longer syncs may remain until that person deletes it. Anything someone saved outside Claras (screenshots, messages) is beyond our control. As long as they keep it.
Android backup, in your Google account If Google backup is on for your Android phone, Android keeps a copy of Claras' data (groups, people, your name, preferences and the session with its identifier) in your Google account. It is made and kept by Google: we can't see it or delete it, and deleting your account doesn't delete it. If you reinstall the app, Android may restore those groups on the phone; the deleted account's session no longer works, so Claras creates a new identifier. Until Android replaces it with that phone's next backup, according to your Google backup settings.
Temporary copy of a receipt photo in the app's cache, on your phone Claras deletes the copy of each photo as soon as it finishes reading the receipt, so normally none remains. One can only remain if the app closed unexpectedly during a scan; deleting your account doesn't look for it. If you want to be sure, clear it in your phone settings (Apps > Claras > Storage > Clear cache). If one remained: until Android frees up space, you clear Claras' cache or data, or you uninstall the app.
Record of your Claras Pro purchase The purchase belongs to your Google account, not your Claras account. Deleting your account doesn't cancel or refund it, and you can restore it if you reinstall the app. Google and we keep the order record (number, date and amount). As required by accounting and tax rules.
Delivery log of code emails Kept by our email provider (Resend). Up to 30 days.
Join attempt records made from your IP address They limit attempts to guess codes. Every new join attempt, by anyone, deletes the ones older than 10 minutes. At least 10 minutes, until the next join attempt.
Technical and audit logs (such as IP address, user agent, times and the account deletion event) Kept by our providers to run and protect the service. For the limited time each provider sets.
Backups We don't keep our own database backups. If our provider (Supabase) has backups, deleted data leaves them when they rotate. Provider backups, if any: up to 7 days.

Tip: before deleting your account, change your name in other people's groups (open the group, three-dot menu, Participants, Rename) or ask the group's creator to delete it.

By email: if you don't have the app, can't open it, or the app can't delete your groups

  1. Email support@clarasapp.com, if possible from the email address linked to your Claras account.
  2. Use the subject "Delete my Claras account". If your account has an email address, that's all we need. If it's about groups from an anonymous account or an earlier identifier, include each group's name and code and roughly when you created it.
  3. Before deleting an account with an email address, we write to that address and wait for your confirmation. We don't delete an account at the request of an address other than the linked one. Anonymous accounts have no email to verify with: see what we can and can't do.

What we delete (account with an email address): in the cloud, the same as the in-app option: the account and its sessions, the groups you created with it (for all their members), your memberships in other people's groups and join attempt records with your identifier. We can't delete data stored only on your phone: remove it by deleting your groups, clearing Claras' data or uninstalling the app.

Time frame: we handle your request as a claim under Colombian Law 1581 of 2012. We resolve it within 15 business days, counted from the day after we receive it. If we need more information to identify your account or groups, we ask for it within 5 days and the time frame runs from your reply; if 2 months pass without a reply, we consider the request withdrawn. If we can't make it, we tell you why before the deadline and finish within 8 more business days. We email you when it's done.

Anonymous accounts and earlier identifiers: what we can and can't do by email

An anonymous identifier holds neither your name nor your email, and the app doesn't show it. By email we have no way to know which one is yours or to prove it's you. This is what can be done:

Delete some data without deleting your account
